The combination of rich historical, cultural and architectural heritage makes Riga a must-see stop along the beautiful Baltic Sea coast.
We will enjoy an introduction to the past and present day of Riga on a scenic sightseeing tour along the beautiful natural setting of Daugava riverbank. We are able to admire the National Opera, Freedom monument and Riga Castle on our way.
Next to the UNESCO World Heritage listing of the historic town center, an equally enchanting experience is the discovery of harmony and wonderful details of art nouveau style. The unkind Baltic climate does not seem to have tempered the imagination of the architects however, who gave the gift of hundreds of wonderfully imaginative facades. Riga is one of the greatest treasure trove of art nouveau buildings in the world.
Though Riga is full of premiere examples of this art form, the guided tour in the Art Nouveau Museum opens a door to the authentic interior of 1903 beautifully renovated and decorated.
The medieval Old Town is ideal for an entertaining stroll back in time to the days when the capital of Latvia established it´s role in commerce between East and West. Aside the glory days of the 13th century Hanseatic League, that gave the city a strong foundation, there are wonderful buildings with a range of different periods and architectural styles to discover in the Old Town. You will be guided to see such magnificent highlights as the Statue of Roland, Town Hall, House of Blackheads and the Riga Cathedral.
Our spectacular day of touring Riga comes to an end in the old town. Thereafter you are welcome to continue exploring on your own or take a short walk back to the hotel or cruise pier, located comfortably next to the old town center.
