Following a heartfelt meet & greet by your private guide, we are on our way to discover the best stories, hidden medieval courtyards and splendid sights of the Latvian capital. Our sightseeing drive will introduce you to the distinctively eclectic architecture, inviting atmosphere and culture of this pocket size metropolis located on the Daugava River- “The River of Destiny.”
Riga is not only world-famous for its remarkable collection of Art Nouveau style buildings, but also for something much more courageous and less fairy-tale looking- the medieval old Town. Founded in 1201, “Le Petit Paris”, as it is honorably nicknamed, also lives up to its title in 2014 as European Capital of Culture.
We will now continue down the scenic riverbank to walk the streets of historic Riga past the Presidential residence at Riga Castle. Once in the heart of the town, we will see erected the Freedom Monument facing the National Opera building nestled in between the greenery of the many parks on our way to enjoy a stroll through the historic town center.
Thereafter we let the enchanting medieval stories lead us through a medley of picturesque cobbled streets and old market places. Our walking tour takes us also by the legendary Town Hall, The House of Blackheads, Powder Tower and old fortification wall to the majestic Dome Cathedral.
Later, the early afternoon is filled with the splendidly uplifting pleasures of the legendary holiday maker’s destination. Tempting white sand dunes and salty sea air, is what we will take in after a short drive behind the city´s boarders. We will tour the delightful Baltic Sea coast of this unique retreat to discover the versatility of this seemingly endless resort once filled with small wooden houses, today boasting everything from glass tiled apartment buildings to opulent mansions of the modern era.
The main walking street and visiting card of the town offers an abundance of shops, cafes and restaurants for a lunch break or to simply rest your feet and take in the day’s experiences.
For families with children, we will recommend some free time for fun in the Dzintari Forest Park a few minutes from the seaside. It is an excellent venue for spending time in fresh pine forest atmosphere with playgrounds for children of various ages, paths to enjoy a relaxing walk or take a break in cafe.
After a rewarding break, we will head back towards the capital city to end the tour comfortably back in the cruise harbor or at your hotel.
