From the old town streets to the celebrated Art Nouveau quarter, we will tour the cultural highlights of the city. As a true gem of Riga, every structure in this mecca of art nouveau is a masterpiece of design. We will admire the distinctive sculptures, balconies and striking forms of the Art Nouveau era covering the entire Albert Street.
Our panoramic sightseeing drive will also take us past Latvian National Opera & Ballett and the Museum of Art along with the Freedom Monument. The Daugava waterfront offers also beautiful views with the old town skyline and bridges connecting the two sides of the river.
We will next take a guided tour around the maze of Riga old town. The urban spirit of the town center reflects it´s prosperity already from the 13th century and is proudly presenting the same today. Riga Cathedral and House of Three Brothers are undoubtedly pearls of the era. Wonderfully entertaining legends and stories of the time allow us to take a closer look into a Hanseatic citizens lifestyle and habits. Time will be allocated to enjoy also a break for a coffee or some local souvenir shopping.
We will also take time to visit the Riga Central Market, which offers a vast array of fresh meats, fish, vegetables, cheeses and local delicacies. The Central Market is the brightest and most diverse food-stuff market place in Latvia. We will get close to the local culture and traditions by getting to know the typical and unique products here – from old to new flavors of Latvia. Your local guide will lead you through Europe’s largest indoor market and bazaar. Aside from being one of the most notable structures from 20th century in Latvia, it has been also included in UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Their historic value lies in the structures of the market, which are five pavilions constructed by reusing old German Zeppelin hangars incorporating Neoclassicism and Art Deco styles in a very practical manner.
